In the Kunej family, we have been engaged in wine production for more than 130 years. If we think about everything that has transpired in the last 130 years: two world wars, the Cold War, different political regimes, epidemics, economic crises, ups and downs of all sorts, the arrival of various new technologies etc. … In all these years, none of it could wane our commitment to the vineyards. A vineyard is a permanent plantation, and, once you plant it, you simply tend to it as best you know and can. In doing so, you have to defy various weather influences, diseases and pests, which makes you cherish what nature gives you. In recent times, which have been marked by the global epidemic of the coronavirus, we have decided to take a bold step and cut down vineyards on inferior wine-growing sites and, at the same time, plant new ones on selected sites in Sremič. Now, we are especially proud because we cultivate three prestigious vineyard sites: the Roševo vineyard, the vineyard by the stone cottage, and the vineyard by the old yew tree.
As the young heir to the estate, I gradually took over the reins together with my wife Emanuela. My parents Lojze and Danica still stand firmly by our side, actively and selflessly helping in all areas of operation (vineyard cultivation, cellaring, tastings). As a food technologist and winemaker, I take care of the development of viticulture and winemaking, while my wife Emanuela, also a food technologist, focuses on the production and development of chocolate products. Emanuela is the one who brought the love of chocolate to the Kunej house.
